Scalamandré and Jannelli&Volpi give life to an unprecedented collaboration, Scalamandré by Jannelli&Volpi: a travel story through the 5 continents characterized by a graphic sign that originates from the classic style of the nineteenth century. The collection thus links together important designs in large format and with a personal style, expertly interpreted by bright and intense colors, and by supports such as non-woven fabric, silks and straws. This lovely chinoiserie print was discovered in a small room of the Noble Hardee Mansion in Savannah, Georgia, which has been described as the last unrestored mansion in Savannah. The mansion dates to the 1860s, and the aged, hand-printed paper is thought to have been installed by a decorator who owned the house in the 1960s or 1970s. It was photographed in sections on site, redrawn line by line and matched to its original color of white and gray leaves on a solid field background. The majestic scale, nearly five-foot repetition, and classic bamboo foliage are the result of adapting ancient hand-painted Chinese silk wall panels, interpreted with a loose brushstroke style typical of more contemporary hand prints. New color additions add a fresh look to this timeless design.
